Economist Öngel: ‘Risk persists’

Evaluating the inflation data, Economist Professor Volkan Öngel said, “Although the gap between CPI-PPI rates has decreased, the PPI rate, which is still higher than the CPI, shows that the next stages of the struggle will be challenging and risks continue.”

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), monthly inflation was 3.92 percent in June, while the 6-month inflation rate, which will determine the salaries of pensioners and civil servants, was 19.77 percent. According to the data, inflation was realized at the lowest level in 18 months on an annual basis. Evaluating the June inflation data, Beykent University Rector Professor Volkan Öngel said, “While the steps to be taken for macroeconomic stability with the new economic management after the elections are eagerly awaited by everyone, the annual inflation figures were slightly lowered, which was encouraging.”

“THE GAP BETWEEN RIFLE AND INFLATION RATES DECREASED”

Öngel continued his speech as follows:

“The CPI figures, which are in a downward trend, albeit slowly, below 40 percent on an annual basis, can be evaluated as the June front of the long-running inflation struggle has been won. However, the persistence of stubbornness, especially on the core inflation side, and the PPI rate, which is still higher than the CPI, although the gap between CPI and PPI rates has decreased, shows that the next stages of the struggle will be challenging and risks continue.”
