TCG Anadolu opens to visitors today. Providing information about the ship, International Relations Expert Associate Professor Kemal Olçar said, “The ship, which is classified as LHD (Helicopter Dock Helicopter Carrier) class, provides protection against threats from the air and sea with the weapon systems it carries, allows tanks and armored vehicles to land safely with the existing pool system, and thanks to the runway on it, a sufficient number of helicopters of various classes can be parked, It can accommodate UAVs and UCAVs with its front launch platform, Lockheed Martin F-35B type fighter jets with vertical landing/take-off capability, can carry a unit of the Land Forces up to 1 TGK (700 people) with all its equipment and supplies, and can host a military hospital with a capacity of at least thirty beds, including operating rooms, dental treatment units, intensive care and infection rooms.”
“THE NUMBER OF THIS TYPE OF SHIPS IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE”
Stating that TCG Anadolu can be used for expeditionary missions as well as evacuation, medical support and sheltering activities in times of peace and crisis, Kemal Olçar from Beykent University, Istanbul, said: “In the coming years, it is expected that the number of such ships will increase, a new type of fully-equipped aircraft carrier will be built, and new features will be added to TCG Anadolu that will allow manned/unmanned aerial vehicles produced with national facilities to land and take off. In summary, sharing this capable ship with the local and foreign public will give confidence to friends. Apart from this, our people will be able to appreciate which countries may be concerned.”
